Awwww, would you look at this precious bundle of boxer puppies? Aren't they cute? Can you guess which one is Leroy?
Here's Leroy all grown up. :o) Leroy is owned by
Winky and Bob Taylor of Apple Valley, Minnesota.
Bad, bad Leroy Brown, aka Leroy, was born on February 18, 1997. The first picture above shows seven almost identical brothers and sisters. Gosh Winky, I still haven't figured out which one he is. :o)
Bob gave Leroy to Winky as a Christmas gift. Winky says he actually gave her the money and she found Leroy herself. He was born of parents who lived with their humans in St. Paul, Minnesota, and while his human mommy was at the hospital giving birth to her first, his grandma human accidentally left the two dogs together while momma dog was in heat. You guessed it! Eight unexpected puppies. They were well taken care of and all got good homes and mommy dog was spayed immediately after that. :o)
About a month after Winky
and Bob got Leroy, their boxer rescue called and said they had an
abused white girl they needed a home for, so they took her with
open arms. Isn't she beautiful. Another with markings on top of
her head. This was Leroy's pseudo-mommy Ella. They were the best
of friends and did a lot for each other. She helped him grow up
and he helped her learn to trust again. The Taylor's lost Ella
last year to cancer and Leroy was depressed for a long time.
Leroy's favorite toy is by
far the tug rope. He is very, very strong (85 lbs. of muscle) and
it's really fun watching him pull on that rope. Winky says he
used to love his teddy bear too, and never destroyed it. But once
Milo, their newest white rescue (we call Milo the Taylor's
designer dog.....there's a button below linked to his page on the
White pages you just have to see him) came to live with them, the
bear was no more.
Leroy is a very gentle dog and really mellow. "Who'da thunk it though," says Winky, "when he was a younger dog. He was the jumpiest dog I've ever seen." Winky says that when he learned he could jump their fence, they had to put up an electric fence to contain him. He doesn't jump at all now, thank heavens.
Leroy lives with 2 other boxers, Milo and Princess, both rescues, and soon will have another sister, Shadow Boxer ( who by the way is gray and white believe it or not, and we will watch her grow up on the White Pages.) She's in Pennsylvania right now growing like a weed, until she is old enough for Winky and Bob to have, but we have added a button below for Shadow so that everyone can jump to her page as well.
Winky says that Leroy is really good with other dogs, unless they get aggressive. Then he puts on big paw out and growls and snaps at them to show them who's the boss! Winky and Bob have grandchildren and he is wonderful with them also. Winky says she couldn't ask for a better boy in all the world.
Well Winky, we think that Leroy is just pretty special, and we are very happy to announce that he is the first dog on the Boxer Brigade. We are honored to have him. Welcome Leroy! 7/13, 1999.
